The Easy Way To Start Keto
SHARE: The Keto diet is a very low carb diet.
How low? Most experts recommend eating 20 grams of carbs or less per day.
That's a very drastic reduction... and it can be difficult to do.
Some people do better going "all out" and fully committing to the low-carb limit straight out of the gate.
Most people, however, will see less intense carb withdrawal symptoms if they do it gradually.
The true dividing line between ketosis and non-ketosis is about 100 grams. It's just that to really ensure deep ketosis (which is what you want), you have to aim lower... and 20 grams seems to work well for most people.
But when you are starting Keto, you can actually begin at around 100 grams. Then gradually go lower.
For example, you could make the transition over a week's time, like this:
Day 1: Eat 100 grams of carbs.
Day 2: 90 grams
Day 3: 70 grams
Day 4: 50 grams
Day 5: 40 grams
Day 6: 30 grams
Day 7: 20 grams
The exact amounts don't matter. What matters is that you reach close to 20 grams and then stay there.
During that week, spend some time setting yourself up for success. Try to memorize foods or ingredients that are not Keto-approved. Gather as many Keto recipes as you can. Read labels. Get rid of carbs in the house.
